Electromagnetic Field Simulation

In adition to the practical execution of EMC testing, we are also able to perform electromagnetic (EM) field simulations. This allows us to quickly and cost-effectively evaluate different design variants and modifications for electromagnetic effects in the early design phase. It also proposes changes and improvements to our customers without the need for real prototypes.

Simulation at EMCC

Theroretical background, many years of experience, a daily routine in performing EMC measurements and tests on complex systems enable us to make plausibility assessments and cross-validations of our simulation results.

You profit from:

  • Reduction of development costs
  • Acceleration of innovative developments
  • Risk assessment: Identify structural loads early on
  • Significant time savings

Typical applications:

  • Theoretical and numerical analyses of the coupling efeects, analysis and simulation of the protection measure, design support and reviews
  • Focus applications include HIRF, Lightning Effects, NEMP and Antennas

HIRF - High Intensity Radiated Fields

Numerical simulations concerning the effects of HIRF can be employed in all stages of aircraft design process. In early stages it can be used to estimate the levels of internal electromagnetic environment. Later it can be used to evaluate impact of design modifications and finally to complement measurement campaigns to achieve HIRF certification. For the last case, EM simulation is employed to investigate influence of aircraft illumination at incident angles that are not covered by the ground testing and to evaluate differences between a ground level measurement setup and the flight, start and landing scenarios.

Antennas

The characterization of antennas over intended frequency including determination of the key parameters such as beamwidth, radiation pattern and side lobes, antenna factor and antenna gain.

Lightning Effects

In order to define the proper lightning requirements EMCC can perform a basic simulation of the aircraft using CAD drawings and other information. Through this we can estimate the lightning current distribution in aircraft structures and determine the estimated levels of transients appearing at interfaces of the electronic systems in already early stages of the design, after modifications or as a part of formal aircraft certification process.
